How do I schedule an appointment?
Fill in my ‘Book a tattoo’ form or DM me on instagram and I’ll get in touch to talk about your idea and book in your appointment.
Where do you tattoo from?
I’m currently tattooing from a private studio in Brick Lane.
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
It can do, but you’ll probably find it’s not as bad as you’ve been led to believe. The amount of discomfort you’ll experience will depend on several elements, including your personal pain tolerance and the location of the tattoo. Bony parts of the body, like the hands, rib cage or joints, are likely to be more painful than fatty areas like the upper arms or thighs. Remember, no pain no gain! If you need to take a break, your tattoo artist should be absolutely fine with it.
What does getting a tattoo feel like?
People have compared getting a tattoo to being scratched by a hot needle or a sharp or stinging feeling, but the truth is you won’t really know what it feels like until you’ve got one.
Generally, the experience of getting a tattoo will go something like this:
Your tattooer will clean the area with rubbing alcohol and shave any hair that is in the way.
They will transfer the stencil of your tattoo onto your skin using water.
The first part of the tattoo will be applying the line work. Here is where you’ll feel a burning, stinging or prickling sensation. Take deep breaths and try to relax.
Depending on the type of tattoo you’ve chosen, the next step will be shading and colouring the tattoo. Lots of people find this bit less uncomfortable than the line work.
Once your tattoo is done, the artist will apply ointment and cover the tattoo.
For a week or so after getting your tattoo, it may feel a bit like sunburn.
Do tattoos fade?
All tattoos will fade to some degree over time due to the skin naturally shedding dead cells. The sun’s UV rays can also break down ink particles in the skin, so tattoos on areas of the body which are usually covered up will fade less quickly than areas that are exposed to more sunlight.
There are a number of things that can help your tattoos stay vibrant:
Get a tattoo from a reputable tattooer who uses high quality inks. A skilled artist will apply the ink deeply and evenly, which will make sure it looks fresh for longer.
Moisturise your skin regularly to keep it hydrated and healthy, and remember to use suntan lotion.
Make sure you follow your tattooers aftercare instructions.
If you do have tattoos that are starting to fade, many artists will offer touch-up services to restore a tattoo’s colour and definition.
How much does a tattoo cost?
This depends on the size and complexity of your tattoo, and how many sessions it takes to complete. It will always be cheaper to get a tattoo from “flash” (pre-drawn designs) than to get a custom-designed tattoo. If you have an idea for a tattoo, then get in touch with your artist- they should be happy to provide a consultation and discuss costs before you commit to paying the deposit.
Are tattoos safe?
Yes, as long as you are going to a reputable tattooer who follows the latest safety standards. This includes using new needles and pigments for every client.
How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?
As a rule, a tattoo will take two to four weeks to heal, although for some people this process will be quicker, and for others it will take more time.
After a new tattoo, it’s normal to experience some redness, swelling and general irritation, but this should ease off within the first 48 hours. The most important thing for this initial period is keeping your tattoo clean and fresh. You shouldn’t touch it and should keep it wrapped.
If your tattoo hasn’t healed after a month, there is likely to be another problem, like an allergy or infection. If you have any concerns you should always contact your tattoo artist, who should be happy to advise.
How should you prepare for your tattoo appointment?
It's important that you make sure you’re hydrated before your appointment. You should also make sure you eat a balanced meal, to stop your blood sugar from dropping. You might want to bring some snacks! And try to get a good nights sleep before your session, and avoid alcohol.
Looking after your skin with a good moisturiser is really important prior to your appointment, but it’s best not to moisturise immediately before the session, as you won’t want to have any residue on your skin during the tattoo. And think about the clothing you’re going to wear- loose, soft, practical clothing is recommended.
